Clean B and B in Center of City - Rating 4/5
The Royal MacIntosh Inn in Dunbar was very comfortable and clean. It had a nice warm bed and a clean and warm shower in the bathroom. Our room looked out on a beautiful view of a Victorian cathedral, and we were able to walk everywhere from our central location. The breakfasts were ample and delicious.I would have like nicer furniture in the room. The armoire had a door that needed fixing, the faux leather on the couch was cracked and worn, and the remote for the TV didn’t work until the staff replaced the batteries. So, it was Clean and Comfy but needed some work.

Booked literally an hour before arrival, on arrival Carol told me everything I needed to know, unfortunately I had just missed the cut off for food but Carol recommended Hector's just around the corner, had a nice meal there. Room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was excellent, just the job to start the day, even ate the haggis lol. Price for room and breakfast was extremely reasonable. Thanks Carol

A lovely short break- Rating 4/5
Our double room was at the back and the view was of roof tops, but it was clean and comfortable and we slept well. The bedding was clean, crisp and white. Milk, tea etc was replaced daily. The light/fan in the bathroom was quite noisy so we just used the light above the mirror.I did intend to mention that to staff and Iforgot. I did also think the windows could do with a bit of a clean. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the meals were lovely; as were the breakfasts. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. It was a lovely, relaxing stay exploring the local area which is beautiful.

The Royal Mackintosh is in the centre of the town - so very convenient; our room had a four poster bed and was very spacious and comfortable with all the usual amenities. The toiletries were Arran which was a nice little luxury and even sachets of oat milk for drinks!Breakfasts were good - poached eggs, haggis and local smoked salmon. All in all this was a friendly and welcoming hotel - clearly popular with locals too.

Nice location close to the sea and Edinburgh - Rating 4/5
The Royal Mackintosh is not the youngest hotel. But knowing that in advance it was absolutely fine. I liked the charm. Breakfast was good, a little pub was there… so all good. The price is probably owing to the proximityto Edinburgh and the season, but we knew that in advance.

Friendly, close to station and fab breakfast - Rating 4/5
I stayed in the Royal Mackintosh for two nights with my mum on a walking holiday in Northumberland and Scotland. Hotel was perfect for our stay - 2 mins from station so it's very easy to visit other places from Dunbar (including Edinburgh just 20 mins on the train), really friendly staff and fantastic breakfast. Hotel is being slowly renovated, so rooms have a few quirks, but nothing that spoiled our stay. Rooms could maybe do with being double glazed as lots of traffic outside, but small price to pay for proximity to station and high street. We really loved Dunbar - fantastic walks and bird watchers will be happy. Hope to come back and hike part of the John Muir Way which starts here. Don't pay crazy prices to stay in Edinburgh, stay in Dunbar...

Stayed one night in Room 19. The room overlooked the High Street, but was well soundproofed, so no traffic noise penetrated, and I had a good night's sleep.Hot water for shaving in the morning took a little time to flow through the plumbing, but eventually arrived. Towels were suitably fluffy. For breakfast in the morning, I took the full Scottish, and it was excellent.Staff were friendly and efficient. My only comment would be that the overall colour scheme of white and shades of grey throughout the hotel was uninspiring:perhaps bed runners in Mackintosh Hunting weathered would give a warmer feel to the rooms.
Response
Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comments on the colour scheme however you will be pleased to know that we have varying colours throughout the rooms with no 2 the same.

Good value for money, friendly hotel - Rating 5/5
I found the hotel to represent excellent value for money at £57/night including a deliciousbreakfast. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is a choice of about 10 types of breakfast which you order the day before. These included, a full Scottish breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, avacado on a breakfast muffin & poached eggs, cerealsetc.I stayed three nights and tried several of the breakfast types on offer. All were delicious.I understand that the restaurant has a good local reputation, although I did not have any meals there, breakfast apart. My single room had a large double bed, desk and free view TV and an en-suite walk-in shower. The room was clean and quite spacious for one person. My only slightly negative comments are that the decoris a little dated and whilst internally the hotel is very quite, most rooms face the high street and suffer from traffic noise - albeit the windows are double glazed.

We booked the Royal Mackintosh for a 3 night stay to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. From the very first minute dealing with the hotel it was obvious that I was dealing with true professionals and thoroughly genuine people. When we arrived we were informed that we had been upgraded at no extra cost to ourselves.I cannot fault the staff in any way as nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was top class and ever so tasty. To top it all off, the price was less than I expected, which in itself was a bonus. We will be returning to the hotel soon, and I genuinely don't think we will be let down.

PROS200yards from stationFair priced B&B accommodationGenerous full breakfast and good value dinner menuComfortable roomsCONSThe rotting wood and peeling paint of the bay window in the dining room needs replacing. The sight of it when seated at the nearby table is both unattractive and unappetising and spoils the ambiance of the panelled room.
Response
Thank you for your feedback Trevor, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. It is our aim to replace the window this year, unfortunately the size of it and the fact it has to be like for like - wood sash and case means this is particularly expensive. So at present it is one of the things we are saving for just now.

Stayed over for one night travelling between Newcastle and Edinburgh on business. Had a great experience, superb steak pie, chips and peas in the restaurant with a very nice malbec. Room was super clean, with lovely crisp white bedding and fluffy towels. I had to indulge in the Scottish breakfast which filled me up for the day.

An Absolutely Lovely Stay at The Royal Mackintosh Hotel - Rating 5/5
My adult son and I thoroughly enjoyed our overnight in the Royal Mackintosh Hotel. We were greeted warmly and shown to our very comfortable room. I found our twin room to be extremely pleasant; clean and tidy, fresh white linen, fluffy white towels, a comfortable bed,a clean en-suite bathroom with shower, and Arran toiletries provided. We arrived late and dining had finished however our lovely host suggested places to get a takeaway and suggested we bring it back to enjoy in the hotel bar where plates and cutlery would be provided: this we did. The bar is well- stocked (included a decent selection of non-alcoholic drinks), cosy and a relaxed place to spend a while. After a good night’s sleep ( well-lined quality curtains) we went downstairs to enjoy and great vegan breakfast. Afterwards we had a wander around Dunbar enjoying the castle and a coastal walk along to Belhaven Bay. I would highly recommend a stay in the Royal Mackintosh Hotel. A huge thank you to the wonderful team.

I have been completing the John Muir Way and on Thursday 2nd Nov completed last section. I decided a wee night over in Dunbar at the end would be an ideal way to finidh it. Hotel is beautiful room spotless with all the facilities anyone would need.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cosy wee bar for a night cap and a restaurant serving very tasty and reasonably priced food. Breakfast too was delicious.

First class - Rating 5/5
Lovely, helpful staff, warm and welcoming atmosphere, slightly shabby corridors lead to comfortable, quiet and elegant rooms, with excellent bathrooms.Approaching on a wet night, when you see the warm glow of the bar through steamy windows you know you've chosen the right place. If breaking your journey north, forget Edinburgh, stop here and explore the ancient harbour with the North Sea crashing onto the rocks at a fraction of the price - and don't miss the Full Scottish breakfast.

October break at the Royal Mackintosh in Dunbar - Rating 5/5
We have had meals here before and the food was delicious. This time we had a three day stay at the hotel and it was great. Dog friendly which for us was a necessity. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were great too and set you up for the day. The price was reasonable too as we were able to afford a third night for roughly the same price for two nights elsewhere. Finally, the staff were so nice and friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again in the future and highly recommend this hotel to others. Thank you Royal Mack for a lovely holiday.

We have stayed here before in 2015 and decided to do so again. We had a large comfy room, which had a large en suite bath. We had been staying in hotels over the previous week that only had showers, so this was a welcome relief. The room was fine. The breakfast menu is balanced and a very good idea if you order in advance. Very sustainable. The staff very nice and attentive. The rules for cleaning the room are not clear. The hotel has certainly seen better days. The carpet in the annex hallway could be better. Especially the entire cultivation can be made more beautiful. For example, painting the room doors would be a good measure. But overall I felt good.

This hotel’s biggest asset is the staff. They are warm, welcoming and helpful. The building is old and a bit creaky, but it does have a bit of character. We had dinner one evening and breakfast one morning and both were very nice. The hotel’s also in a really great position for walking into town. The only downsides were the lack of sockets for chargers by the bedside cabinets and the hot water can be a bit slow coming through. I would stay there again though.

Amazing stay for our daughters wedding - Rating 5/5
I really cant rate this hotel highly enough. The building is stunning, the rooms beautiful, the staff so friendly and helpful and the food delicious. The only tiny down side was in our room (23) the space between the bed and the wardrobe ws so tight I had to squeeze through sideways, but apart from that it was an amazing 3 night, we stayed for 3 nights and the staff couldnt have done any more for us. They even put a bottle of prosecco in my daughter room on her wedding night, what a lovely touch. We will definetely stay again if back in Dunbar. Many thanks to all.

Staff were very helpful and friendly on arrival, and throughout my stay. Check-in and -out fast and efficient. Room was spacious with good en suite facilities. Comfortable king size bed. Breakfast menu was extensive and choice was freshly cooked to order, infinitely better than a buffet. Great value, my hotel of choice whenever I'm in the area.

Very good - Rating 5/5
What a lovely hotel, very helpful and polite staff, only had 1 breakfast but it was very tasty, cooked to perfection and hot.Quite a wide selection to choose from too, to cater for all tastes.Room was just a nice size, I had a small double, perfect for me.Only 1 flight of stairs which was a bonus for me.Slightly xreakt floors outside of room but kind of added to the "olde world" charm. Car park is very small but there's a medical centre across the road you can park in overnight. Overall nice hotel, centrally located in Dunbar, shops close by, definitely stay again, 5*

Great value for money, with a large room, and a huge bed! En suite bathroom was lovely too. The full breakfast was really good too, which came with the room when booking direct with the hotel online. Much better deal than on Booking.com. Although my ear plugs and white-noise came in handy, due to Friday night in the bar downstairs.

Did the job - Rating 4/5
Very pleasant staff (although the young woman with a penchant for smashing glass into the bin in the bar could do with turning it down a bit - very jarring!) Great food, both for breakfast and the evening menu. I'd recommend the Chicken Sizzler! . Very dog friendly - only the restaurant was out of bounds. Our small double bedroom was just that - small - and ergonomically lacking. It would have improved if there were a couple of hooks to hang up outdoor jackets, and a mirror where the socket is for the hairdryer. We were allowed access to the medical centre across the road for car parking at the weekend- might not be so easy mid-week but we were fine. All in all, it served our purpose well, was reasonable value for what it was, and we were made welcome, so giving it 4 stars. Is it a 4 star destination? No, more like 3.

We only stayed 1 nightBBD and all was fine. Food was good and staff friendly the hotel was busy so booking times for dinner and breakfast was important. The decor is a little dated and in need of a revamp but everything worked and we were quite comfortable. Dunbar was quieter than we were expecting with few shops and quality restaurants. Having the post office close by was useful and fine weather meant the nearby beach and harbour delightful for an afternoon wander.

It's a return to the Royal Mack for us, the first being pre-pandemic, It was good to be back. The staff make this hotel, without exception they're a delight to deal with. We were in a small double although we didn't spend that much time in it, it was clean and comfortable. The only down side for the room was that it's located opposite the boiler house (think that's what it was) which was a bit noisy through the night (an unobtrusive intermittant hum but something we aren't used to). Breakfasts are gorgeous, only included if you book via the hotel website not booking com. We had our evening meal in the hotel twice during our 3 night stay, delicious both times. Very conveniently located for the train station and local buses.....we'll be back

Great friendly staff - Rating 4/5
Stayed 2 nights for a family wedding near by , staff were very friendly and helpful , rooms were a bit tired and in need of upgrading , breakfast was of high quality and well presented .
Response
Thank you for your review we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. I am surprised though that you found your room to be tired, it had literally been decorated in March, with a new carpet put in a few months before, the furniture is all relatively new as well but I suppose we cant decorate to everyone's tastes.

Spacious room with all the amenities - Rating 5/5
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Royal Mackintosh, Hannah was an impeccable host and made sure I was well looked after whether in my room, at breakfast or at the bar. She recommended some local things to do suited to both rainy and fair weather days, which as a first time visitor to 'Sunny Dunny' was well appreciated. I hope to visit Dunbar again and if and when I do I'll be sure to stay at The Royal Mackintosh again.

I knew The Mac as had been at a party there a couple of years ago. They work tirelessly to try and provide the best for you. Well organised and room was ideal. Breakfast was good too. Would recommend anyone planning to stay in Dunbar, train station very close and Dunbar's main amenities all close by. Would be my first choice going back to Dunbar.

Cozy room, nice breakfast - Rating 4/5
Nice place, good location. Sometimes the room was a bit cold, even with the heat on max, and there wasn't always hot water available, but the smart TV was nice, and overall good stay. heat wouldn't be an issue outside of winter.
Response
Thank you so much for the review, we are sorry you found the room cold on occasions we have extra heaters we are always able to supply if needed, and would have happily put one in for you had we known, sometimes we are finding that the hot water can on occasions take a wee bit longer to come through we apologise for this. We are working with our plumber to identify ways to combat this but joys of an old building mean its a bit temperamental.

Great room, food was excellent, only fault was no tv
Response
Our apologies for the lack of TV as soon as we were aware of the fault we contacted our TV aerial engineer unfortunately they were unable to come out the same day but they came out the next day and the issue has been fixed. We are slowly but surely upgrading rooms to have smart TV's so if there is an issue again then most rooms will still have the smart tv facility for Netflix etc.

Review of Our Stay in Royal Mckintosh Hotel - Rating 4/5
We had a lovely warm welcome and all the staff were friendly and helpful and the service very good. The food was excellent, especially the full Scottish breakfast. The steak we ate on the steak night was tasty and tender.Covid precautions were very good, with polite request notices to wear face masks and a fair number of sanitising stations. The room we had was clean and comfortable. We were happy with the room though some people may have found it small and the decor in need of improvement. It is possible the state of the decor in the room has been affected by covid restrictions. We would have given the hotel an excellent rating of 5 but for this one point about the room but we feel it is fair to make allowances due to the problems almost certainly posed by covid. In spite of this minor negative point we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be very happy to stay there again.

Friendly, welcoming, helpful & efficient staff. Spacious room with large comfortable bed and sea view. Excellent choice of cooked breakfasts. As Dunbar is a Fairtrade Town it was surprising to see that only the hot chocolate was Fairtrade. Hopefully you can replace Nescafe and PG Tips with Fairtrade alternatives. Also it would be good if you installed shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower in place pof single use plastic tubes.

For a two-night stay, The Royal Mackintosh was ideal. My room was comfy and I’m glad I opted for the larger king rather than the small double which reviews had suggested was on the small size. The King room was big enough but not spacious. However, I had everything I needed: comfy bed; tea and coffee making facilities and supplies; hot water; TV; wardrobe and full length mirror. The room was comfortably warm, even without radiators being on and it being quite chilly outside. It is a Victorian building so you have to take this into account. My only negative point is that the shower curtain rail was not attached very securely to the wall so it sloped a lot and I was very careful when moving the curtain. I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as I was meeting up with friends elsewhere. We had drinks sitting outside the front of the hotel and the service was very good. The interaction I had with staff was all positive. All in all the room rates are fair and the hotel is well situated for the town centre and beach.

Long Term Stay - Rating 5/5
I had the pleasure of staying at the mack ,through lockdown , for 9 months. I can't thank Hannah and the staff enough for everything that they did for me over that time. They shifted bookings to accommodate my itenary at short notice which was appreciated. The food was always great and the catering staff were always keen to offer options not on the menu to change things up a bit. I am sad to have left , but will return soon with my wife for a visit if i'm not back through work first. Amanda,Lesley, Sheryl, Kirsty,Carol, Janey, Liam, Craig and wee Jodi will all be missed by me.

COMFORTABLE STAY - Rating 5/5
Traveled as a golf party of 15 and made to feel very welcome by Hannah and Amanda. The hotel was very Covid safe with all restrictions being enforced. Rooms were very clean and plenty of choice for breakfast per-oredered the night before. All food was freshly cooked and served hot. I can recommend this hotel which is perfectly positioned in Dunbar for the town centre, local sights and trips further afield (Edinburgh 30 mins approx).

The staff were brilliant at this difficult time. Lovely big spacious room, right in the heart of Dunbar. Easy access to Edinburgh by train (just up the street), great coastal walks from the hotel both north and south. Great touch by giving me a packed lunch as breakfast could not be served, due to the present situation (covid 19). Again cannot stress how good the staff were

This was our first time as a stopover for Edinburgh airport from South. Lovely comfortable hotel , staff can’t do enough to meet your needs, just a lovely warm Scottish welcome. I used to come to Dunbar as a teenager on holiday every year with parents, the place has changed a bit in terms of housing , shopping etc but you are greeted with the same warm welcome and that’s what people remember. Going to book for a weekend stay in future.

Lovely helpful and very friendly staffRestaurant ..Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Great breakfast with lots to choose fromRooms - 1st one given ..room 12 was very basic and looked out over the roof but there was a rather unpleasant smell of sweaty feet however when we went down to reception they gave us room 12. Four poster bed looked out over the front street much nicer view but quite a cold room however -it was a large room and it was a very cold wintry nightOverall it's a nice place to stay

I would recommend the hotel to others:)

January in Dunbar - Rating 4/5
As in a previous visit the most important impression of the Royal Mac is the superb staff who were always available, effective, cheerful, friendly and immediately aware of needs and obviously skilled and hardworking. This covers all the staff I met, from the reception to the dining room and to the room attendant. The bedroom was adequate for my needs, very warm from the two radiators and well-eqipped, except for the absence of a simple chair, sometimes needed for a quiet time. The warm room meant that theduvet was a bit heavy and maybe an alternative could be provided for those milder January nights which seem to occur in the town. The historic aspects of the house were impressive, especially the Mauretania panellingand the easy access to leaflets and books of interest was valued. But overall, the staff, easy access to the town and the rail/bus services and the reliability of all support needed for an unexpected and necessary visit means that I shall be booking again some time. Thank you

Good Value and Good Hospitality - Rating 4/5
The Royal Mackintosh hotel is very close to the rail station and just a few minutes' walk from the center of Dunbar, thus making it ideally located within the historic town. Meals are good, with decent portions and the hotel generally represents good value-for-money. Adding in good hospitality and its character and location, all makes this a good hotel for visiting Dunbar.

I had a great night's stay at the Royal Mac - staff were super friendly on checkin. My room (9) was clean and comfortable, and had a great bath in the bathroom. View was over the back of the hotel - but I still got to see the glorious sunset over the roofs.I had dinner in the restaurant - really lovely mac & cheese (glad I went for the small portion and left room for dessert). Also breakfast in the morning had a good selection. Was a really lovely wee hotel!

Greeted well. Given the room we stayed in before which was thoughtful, we were chuffed. My sister said their room was nice too.we had drinks and food in the bar which we all enjoyed. Breakfast was fine. The only sad bit was when the new bed we had fell through at one side as it hadn't been put together properly, I now have an extremely sore back. We did have a little discount by way of compensation.

Staff is super friendly and helpful, rooms are cosy and clean and the food served in the beautiful restaurant is superb. We had a great stay in the Royal Mackintosh Hotel. Only two little things we did not like. The door to our bathroom was warped what the opening of the door made quite heavy. And there should be a door between the bar and the staircase, so the noice stays at the bar.

Although the Hotel is an older building with some tired décor the wood panelled charm of the dining room and the friendly staff well compensate for the lack of modern facilities. The evening meal was first class and breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful - just what you need for a day on the course. The small cocktail bar is a warm and friendly place and the family atmosphere makes you feel comfortable enjoying a small amber nectar before bed. Will stay again next time in Dunbar.

one night in dunbar - Rating 4/5
I booked to stay one night on my way back from Skye. The price was £59 which is reasonable. The room was clean and the bathroom was fine and everything worked. The room was very small and overlooked the back yard of the hotel where rubbish was stored and kitchen pots and pans. It was an unpleasant view. My room didn't look like the ones in the photos on the website and had unfinished and unpainted wood around the windows. The breakfast experience was very good due largely to the very pleasant young woman who was serving - she helped me to get my breakfast as I was on crutches. The hot breakfast was excellent and the dining room very pleasant indeed.I had asked for help with luggage on the form I filled in when I booked, but I didn't get it. The TV worked most of the time, so had to watch tv on the internet on my ipad.
Response
I am sorry to hear that you didnt have the most enjoyable stay. You had booked our only single room and unfortunately it is located at the back of the hotel. We would have been more then happy to help you with your luggage, you only had to ask, it would have been no trouble for our staff to run up for your bags when you required help. Thank you for your kind comments about your breakfast experience.

We stayed for a long weekend and were given a warm welcome by all the staff. The staff are always willing to go that extra mile to help you enjoy your stay. The food for breakfast and in the restaurant is very tasty and you are given good size portions. The hotel is close to the station and the town centre which makes the visit to Dunbar easy if you dont have a car. My only suggestion would be that the decor in the rooms could do with a wee update but the bed was comfey so overall i would recommend the Royal Mackintosh to anyone visiting Dunbar.

Lovely.I adore the traditional hotel experience and your hotel was to a very high standard, without being 'out-dated' The restaurant was beautiful, and the food was amazing, you have a gem of a chef. Our room was lovely and though I was on a small budget, I didn't find anything was lacking or budget standard. All in all a fabulous place and I really hope to stay again on my next wee trip.THANK YOU ALL.MJ Bird

Last Minute Treat - Rating 4/5
Our night at the Royal Mackintosh Hotel in their large and spacious superior room including four poster bed was lovely. Despite the slight concern over the age and state of the mattress we had a good night sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning. The bathroom was fine though could do with being updated. We enjoyed the use of the large sofa for an early morning cuppa and I watched a late night movie on the enormous wall TV. Yes it really was a treat and I would recommend the room and hotel to others.

We stayed at the Royal Mac for 2 nights when attending a wedding at nearby Broxmouth Park. Hotel itself is a lively traditional building and our room had a beautiful big bay window to the front. We had dinner on our first night and breakfast was included in our stay. Both were excellent and staff were very friendly and attentive throughout, offering assistance with taxis etc. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a traditional hotel full of character and warmth - a pleasant change from the usual chains!

MR ANDREW HOGG - Rating 4/5
I booked my joiner - Mr Andrew Hogg into the hotel with his colleague for 2 nights. Both were happy with the rooms - the service and the food. They did however mention that they did not get clean towels on the second day.One had his bed made and the other didn't.for that reason I'm giving 4 stars.
Response
Good Morning,Thank you for your comments, on the second morning both rooms were cleaned, however it is our policy to only change the towels if they have been placed in the bath or shower, if they are left on the towel rail in which case these were we assume they are happy to use the same towels. We do have notices to this affect in all the bedrooms as part of our green policy, however if they had asked we would have provided them without hesitation. I can only apologise if they wanted fresh towels and didnt receive them. I am pleased to read that they were happy with the service and the food.Kind regardsThe Royal Mackintosh Hotel

Excellent value - Rating 5/5
Having stayed in various Hotels and B and Bs in the East Lothian area (Musselburgh, Tranent, Dunbar) as a business traveller during the past 3 years, this was the best value for money experience that I have so far encountered. In particular, a warm room and plenty of hot water for a shower at 5.30am, opportunity to get a full breakfast at 6.45am and a warm room to come back to at 5.30pm were much appreciated.Facilities such as these are needed by business travellers but often not available at other establishments, which seem only to cater for tourists even in the depths of winter.

I was given a warm welcome and shown to my room where I was struck by its spaciousness, with not only a large four-poster bed, but also a full sized sofa set to look out over the crashing waves of the nearby coastline through the rather grand bay window. Just the place for a sound nights sleep for thisweary cyclist. All other aspects of my stay, such as bathroom, breakfast and so on, were well up to the high standard set by this first impression, while the reasonable room rate was extraordinary good value. A lovely hotel and yes, a 'real gem' I would say.

We organise a weekend trip to Scotland a couple of times a year...Hotel must haves...Good menu in the restaurant, decent bar, clean rooms, comfy bed all at a keen price, The Royal Mackintosh has all of these, the staff are very friendly and helpful, Breakfast and Evening menus very good. The hotel is in a great location if you decide to get a train into Edinburgh as the station is just a few minutes walk away, a bus stop is outside the Hotel if that's what you would prefer. Dunbar is like so many towns around the country its looking a bit tired, but the harbour is worth a visit and you may even see Sammy the Seal!

We enjoyed the Hotel and staff! They were very helpful and friendly. The location was great for our needs, as we were able to walk to many of the seminars we were there for.We had a room that overlooked the street and was located over a local young peoples bar that we were not aware of.The music and noise didn't stop until after 1pm, and the bar guests were under our window for the smoking area.Very loud and difficult to rest. The folks at the pub were having a ton of fun, wish we were younger we may have joined in.

The front of house staff so nice and so attentive .. Very busy too so well done them .. The food was amazingly good and well presented so well done the chef and team .. The housekeeping staff wonderful and set high standards ..the building is old and doors n Windows show this ... Especially in the bedrooms.. Great shower too..

Comfortable hotel with great food - Rating 5/5
Conveniently located with friendly and helpful staff. My rooms were clean and everything functioned. The shower was powerful. The hotel caters for a wide taste food-wise - and it's all excellent. The full Scottish breakfast is fantastic (and a considerable undertaking!), and the grilled sea-bass on roasted tomatoes with samphire and watercress was beautifully done. If you're on an early trip out of the harbour, they'll even put a packed lunch together for you.The bar is well stocked and the beer in good shape.

We were a few bikers who slept one night in the Royal Mackintosh Hotel while our roundtrip through scotland. The rooms are very comfortable and modern furnished. The welcome was very heartfelt and pleasant. The food and drink was decidedly good and the pub is really cozy! I stayed at the hotel with 9 others for 4 nights whilst on a golf tour of the area. We have done this tour each year for over 25 years . This was by far the best standard of service , the quality if the food was fantastic ,the staff were very friendly . The hotel itself was perfect for a group of golfers who want good food, good beer/drink selection, clean comfy bed and hot bath. well what can I say, it was clean/nice, staff were very nice and helpful, breakfast was very nice. I booked it because of the price and on site parking,1, there was only a few parking spaces so I had to park else where,2, the room was nice, clean, shame I couldn't close the window, it had something screwed into it so I couldn't close it!.3, I had to phone reception in the morning so I could be let out of the room as the latch wouldn't go back allowing me to open the door!. would I stop there again, strangely as it may sound but yes I would, in a different room though. must say the staff were nice.

Looking forward to our next visit! - Rating 5/5
First time in Dunbar and already looking forward to our next visit! The hotel is perfectly situated for people travelling by train as the station is a 2 minute walk. It is also a very short walk from Dunbar's various shops and restaurants - many of which are refreshingly independently owned. Hotel staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful - they did everything and more to meet our needs including allowing us to check out later than the usual time after taking part in a local run, and they had no issues with our guide dog! Our room was comfortable, warm and equipped with everything we needed. Really appreciated the bath and hot water which we've sometimes had problems with in other hotels we've stayed in. Finally, there was plenty of choice for breakfast. Thank you for making our stay so memorable, pleasant and comfortable.

Handy if travelling by train, and close to shops as well as the sea. My room was a little noisy from traffic as it was at the front, but all in all a good place to stay and explore the surrounding area.

Great place to Stay - Rating 5/5
Stayed with my mother and sister as we had a family funeral near Dunbar. After travelling over 350 miles I was in need of food and freshments! My room was great and had everything I needed, down to the bar for a pint and some food, the atmosphere was friendly and the food was really good. After a great nights sleep the breakfast in the morning didn't disappoint, in fact it set me up for the rest of the day, very filling and tasty. The breakfast waitress was really friendly and very accommodating as we took our breakfast in the bar area due to my sister having her little but not un-noticed dog with her!! The hotel are very dog friendly which went down well with us - even though my sisters dog is not so friendly!! Slept the best I have in ages every night at the Mackintosh and I am looking forward to a return visit later in the year. I travel extensively with work and spend more time in hotels then home and this is up there in my top slots.

A little concerned that the booking I made was for a twin room and when I arrived was told it was a superior room with a four poster bed and they were unable to adapt the room to a twin. As it was to celebrate my 60th birthday I was disappointed but decided to accept what was on offer as I was travelling with my daughter. As the mistake was not mine I still have proof of my booking I was disappointed to be charged more than what my booking was originally for. However my stay was enjoyable and staff very nice.

Fabulous Hospitality - Rating 5/5
We stayed at the Royal Mackintosh hotel as we went to a wedding in the nearby Broxmouth Park. Upon arrival we were advised that one of our rooms wasn’t ready but we could gain access to the other one to get ready (we arrived before 12 and check in is at 1 so this was very kind of them). We went to get a drink but then realised that we would have to drive to the venue and decided against the drink…on hearing this, Cliff (the manager I think) offered to drive us to the venue - unbelievable kindness! The rooms were lovely, really good sizes and very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept really well and the shower was excellent with really good power, lovely towels and toiletries. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast was outstanding. We will definitely stay here again.

Enjoyable stay - Rating 4/5
We stayed for one night in May while attending a wedding locally. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. Even the dog had a good night's sleep! The light lunch when we arrived and the breakfast next morning was excellent. It is not a grand hotel but very good value for the price.

Nice place to stay - Rating 4/5
Although there was not much of an outlook from the room, the antics of the seagulls were amusing, the room was very comfortable and clean and had a great nights sleep. The hotel staff very helpful and friendly and food very good. Handy for the railway station.

A Warm Welcome - Rating 5/5
Many thanks for everything from the warm welcome to the final friendly send off. The amenities are as good as, if not better, than many multi-starred hotels, the elegance of the dining room down to the last detail is first class.

Enjoyable Stay - Rating 4/5
Stayed at this quirky hotel for a rugby weekend. Must say that the hotel staff could not have been more helpful and looked after us with a smile. The breakfast was something to die for. Thanks guys. Only reason for the 4 stars were rooms a little small but nonetheless will definetely be back
